I used to be really into designing websites, but it’s so long since I have done it now that I wouldn’t even know where to start — I am grateful there are so many awesome wordpress themes available, but if I ever needed to design a non wordpress site these days I’d definitely hire professionals, such as charlotte nc web design, to do it for me!

Moving hosts

I am in the process of moving all of my sites from my current host, to my new host.

I think I have finally mastered the art of moving wordpress blogs with zero downtime and no work to do other than a bit of FTPing, but I am not looking to moving the site my other halves family uses for email, or the PHP script site I have been running since 2001 and is a hot mess.

I’ve certainly done the easy ones first.

I just installed the new beta version of wordpress here at Toria’s Daily Ramblings. I have only had a little play so far, but here’s what I think — I love that it is so simple to add new plugins now, I don’t even have to download them manually and upload them any more, but other than that I don’t see anything special, a new design that’ll take some getting used to…that’s about it.

There we go, I am all protected from evil, nasty spam now. I have installed and activated Askimet and Math Comment Spam Protection, they seemed like the best bets. Hopefully no more spam for me.

I did also find some other interesting looking plugins and widgets that I am playing with at the moment, including a behind the scenes ‘stalking machine’ called WassUp, I need to get some more visitors so that I have some interesting statistics to look at. I am a complete nerd for statistics, I could look through the google analytics logs for my other sites for days — or maybe, maybe I am more just a fan of stalking than I am statistics? Hehe.

I am really into my websites and web designing at the moment which is brilliant, my love of it had sort of waned in recent months. I have also saved a few other plugins to install on my other sites and I am still looking for more for here.

But right now I am breaking off, it’s time to go for my weekly weigh in and dinner, I am having a fat sandwich

Looks like I need to get some comment spam protection going on here at Toria’s Daily Ramblings, I just logged on to over 30 emails telling me I had new comments — I knew as soon as I saw that that they were all going to be spam comments on not genuine ones.

So, off I head to the wordpress plugin directory to see what the best ones around these days are. It’s been a while since I have had to install any anti spam plugins.

And who knows what else I will come across while I am there. Plugins are fun hehe
