Adios old host

My host that I have been with since June 2006 have pulled my main site offline again — Groan — that’s the fourth time in a week and a half. They say that I have outgrown shared web hosting but I don’t believe that, I think they are just trying to push their new VPS service on me which I simply cannot afford

I have spent a long time today looking for a new host, I have definitely decided it’s time for me to move on from my old one, despite the hassle.

One of the many hosts I came across during my research was Concentric, they have plans suitable for all users, from basic to professional and they start as low as $9.95 per month. They offer a lot of resources even on the basic plan, 10gb disc space and 100gb bandwidth is more than ample for what I need.

They are definitely on my shortlist.

Dreamhost is seriously not cool right now

I am really annoyed with my webhost now, it’s several hours since they pulled my site offline and mailed me to let me know of the issue — but they are yet to respond to my email about it. It’s seriously uncool to just pull my site like that without warning and then leave me hanging for several hours, I am headed to be within the next hour so if they have not responded by then I will be very very unhappy with them come morning

It wasn’t that long ago I was writing about a website that helps you to find the perfect host, I noted that I didn’t need to use it myself as my web host is great and I am very happy with them, but that you guys might find it useful.

Looks like I might be needing it after all.

I am lucky in that I have already found the perfect web host for my numerous sites, it has everything I could ever need or want, all the disc space and bandwidth I could ever need – but it was a hassle finding them, I spent many hours trawling several web hosting sites and weighing up my options before committing to one.

I have been with the same webhost for a few years now, I think this is my 3rd year with them – they are quite expensive, more so than most hosts any way, but once you’ve found a good host trust me…you stick with it. Webhosting is a lot like dating in that sense, you have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find your Prince

I used several web hosting review sites when I was doing my search, they are an invaluable resourse. One such site is Top10Webhosting.com – they’ve selected the top ten best web hosting services out there at the moment based on a number of criteria including price, reliability and available features. I am actually quite surprised to see my host isn’t on there, though as mentioned they are quite expensive so it’s probably that that has kept them off the list.
