Everyone hates them, every one tries to block them and I am sure like me, out of principle alone, no one would actually buy or sign up to any thing that is being sold through pop up advertising.

I post on a US TV shows forum that has constant popups and they drive me mad — if I didn’t love the site so much I would never visit again.

I heard about a program called Ad Muncher a while ago which is meant to be really effective in blocking popups and other embedded ads.

I am going to Try Ad Muncher now and see if it makes my online life more pleasurable!

However I have been looking into ways I can monetize it recently, this site doesn’t get too much traffic so I know from experience Google adsense won’t work here, affiliate marketing isn’t going to get me very far and my options are more limited. I did come across a really interesting site a while ago however during my search. At BackLinks.com you can, well, buy and sell backlinks on and for your site — the site has thousands of advertisers ready and waiting to buy text link adverts on a wide range of sites, from mommy blogs to high traffic tech sites!

I am signing up as a publisher right now. I am going to add this blog to their system and see how things go, if I like the way things run and am able to sell a link or two then I will be registering all of my other sites also. I shall post an update again in a few weeks to let you know how it’s gone.

It’s one thing I have noticed while dropping entrecards the last few days, every blog seems to be monetized in one way or another, does no one just blog for fun any more?

I remember back when I started blogging in 2000, you’d about fall off your seat if you saw any form of adverts on a ‘personal’ site, ads were for commercial sites only.

Times change though, and I am more than willing to change with them. I have had success on some of my other sites with running google adsense adverts, so I might give that a go here – though those sites get traffic, I am not sure it’ll be worth it on a site that gets very little. Time will tell.
