…as I mentioned there was nothing really wrong with the place we stayed. It was clean, it was basic, it was quiet, it was dark, it had a TV and it was in a really great location.

We didn’t buy a single thing shopping though, which was sort of the point of the trip. York is a difficult city to walk around when you don’t know your way was what we discovered — we only went in a few shops, we didn’t go in any of the few shops I had wanted to and we were back at the hotel by around 4pm…I had not planned to be back until more like 6pm!

We went out at night and went to the outdoor ice skating rink to watch people fall over, we’re mean like that.

Then we ended up in Wetherspoons for a meal and a few drinkies which was nice.

The problem came at bed time when I couldn’t sleep…because I’d been drinking tea and coke all day, for some reason i totally forgot that I can’t handle even a few caffeinated drinks per day never mind several.

So it was a sleepless night…and I am not exaggerating, I literally got no sleep. I just lay in bed from 3am until around 9am when we eventually gave up, got up and went home.

So, York was OK…shopping was a bit of a let down and the lack of sleep spoiled things…but that was my own fault.
