Why oh why do people visit at tea time?

To my mind it just makes sense that 99% of people in the UK eat their tea at some time between around 5 – 6pm and thus you shouldn’t call around unannounced between around 4.30 – 6.30pm. I would never do that.

Yet people always seem to come around here at those times, my Aunts and my neighbour are especially bad for doing it. I was brought up to be polite, so I’d never dream of asking someone to leave, so have had many a spoilt tea over the years.

Today, my Aunt arrived at about 4.40pm, despite it being perfectly obvious we were cooking a roast she came in any way, despite the table being set she stayed, despite several hints as time passed and passed she stayed, despite me tripping into the kitchen every 10 minutes announcing I was turning a pan down and the like she stayed, despite the house being stunk out with the smell of cooked food she stayed — even when she eventually announced she was leaving at around 6.10pm, she still took another 15 minutes to leave, despite my neighbour leaving his house as we were stood at the door and commenting that the roast smelt delicious.

Are some people really that oblivious?

Apparently.
